Different Is Better

It’s very tempting to see something being done and convince yourself that you could do it a lot better. And you’d make sure it was better all around and people would think so too.  Because you are doing it. In fact, though, that’s probably not going to happen. You’ll care more, but it’s unlikely the market will. Consider the alternative, which is choosing to turn the question upside down, to do it backwards, sideways, or in a significantly more generous or risky way. Simply different but in a more meaningful way. Success often starts with the way you choose to solve a problem, not the problem itself.

I've been in the restaurant business for 45 years. My work has been to design better restaurants by developing better operators. Smarter thinking wins. Period. The operator who puts it to work runs a better business. I have written several books on it, The Operator's Playbook among them.
